ACS GO Americorps Fellows will be selected to
provide high dose academic tutoring and supportive mentoring to
students in their assigned class every day. They will also
collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including colleagues and
families, to contribute to an enriching school community where
ACS GO Fellows will serve students in-person,
every day, at one of the three school sites listed below.
Therefore, candidates will need to be located in or have plans to
relocate to the New York City area by August 1, 2021.
Please note we will open our school buildings in a manner that
maintains the health and safety of all community members, which
will likely include routine COVID-19 testing and CDC guidance for
space utilization and interactions.
- ACS East Harlem Elementary (K-5) | 220 E 106th St. | New York,
- ACS Kingsbridge Elementary (K-4) | 3120 Corlear Ave. | Bronx,
- ACS Kingsbridge Middle (5-6) | 532 W 215th St. | New York, NY
- Fellows will serve Mondays-Fridays, August 1, 2021 - June 30,
- Fellows serve Monday-Friday and some weekends- an average day
lasting 9-10 hours. Schedules will be finalized in August.
- This is a full-time (1700 hours), 11 month AmeriCorps Fellows
- To ensure that ACS GO Fellows meet the necessary living
expenses incurred while participating in the Fellowship program,
members are provided a modest living allowance and access to health
- ACS GO Fellows will also be eligible for a Segal Education
Award through AmeriCorps upon successful completion of the service
term in good-standing with the service site (1700 hours of service
and the service term in its entirety).
- Fellows receive high-quality professional development
throughout the service year.
The mission of the Great Oaks Foundation
(GOF) is to launch and support a network of charter schools that
prepare students for college success through a rigorous tutorial
program. The Great Oaks Foundation has replicated the Great Oaks
Fellowship model in Newark, NJ, New York, NY, Bridgeport, CT,
Wilmington, DE and Baltimore, MD. A select group of Great Oaks
Fellows are enrolled in the Teaching Residency
Amber Charter Schools (ACS)
mission is to provide our students an academically rigorous and
well-rounded education, along with strong character development,
enabling them to prosper in their future endeavors. By 2025,
the ACS network will serve almost 2000 students across three NYC
Amber Charter School East Harlem (K-5) was founded in 2000
as the first Latino-led charter school in New York State.
Amber Charter School Kingsbridge (K-6) opened in 2016. Amber
Charter School Inwood (K-1) opens in 2021.
The Great Oaks Foundation has partnered
with Amber Charter Schools to provide more
placement opportunities for GO Americorps Fellows to serve students
in need of support through high dose tutoring and mentoring.
This is a critical need, given the evolving challenges our schools
and students face in the midst of our country’s ongoing health
Instruct for Academic Mastery
ACS GO Fellows deliver virtual small group instruction to
students in the context of a supportive relationship, resulting in
a significant increase in math and ELA achievement.
- Provide high dose, high impact tutoring and academic learning
support to students in math and/or English language arts.
- Assess student learning daily to inform personalized
- Actively participate in whole class learning sessions, to
support teacher practice and student learning and engagement.
- Provide additional academic support and guidance during office
hours, after school programming and as needed.
- Participate in team meetings with teachers and leaders to
receive guidance, academic data and materials to inform, align and
evolve instructional practice.
- Actively engage in professional development sessions that are
focused on student instruction (tutorial), mentoring and coaching
techniques, student data, personal development, diversity and
- Utilize at least one planning period each day to organize and
adapt instructional materials.
Mentor for Leadership
ACS GO Fellows provide fundamental support to enhance students’
social emotional growth.
Fellows help empower students to evolve into leaders.
- Mentor small groups and individual students.
- Consistently serve as a model for students, demonstrating
enthusiasm and commitment to learning as well as professional
- Ensure students’ continued demonstration of
AMBER core values (Achievement,
HonEsty and Respect) and
community member expectations
- Support students to set self-directed social emotional
- Cultivate relationships with families through weekly
communication, ensuring open conversations and productive
partnership that support student progress
Develop a Community
ACS GO Fellows will contribute to the enrichment and development
of the school community.
- Attend and actively participate in all school/network events
- Help students and families grow their technology skills and
- Support and assist specials teachers with daily lessons,
activities and/or assessments
- Participate in Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of
- Additional responsibilities may be established by school
leadership in collaboration with network leadership.
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree by August 1, 2021
- Citizenship or legal Permanent Residency status in the United
States (AmeriCorps requirement)
- Served no more than three previous AmeriCorps service
terms (AmeriCorps National requirement)
- Prior experience working or volunteering with children
(tutoring and/or mentoring preferred)
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

In the event that some portion of the 2021-22 school
year requires a temporary shift to remote learning and working,
candidates will also need to have reliable and secure equipment,
such as a laptop and reliable internet access) and protected,
professional work space at home.
